So, unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple decades, there’s a very good chance you’ve come across the artistic stylings of the Toasters. For years, this collective has dedicated itself to the spread of their classic toaster image through a plethora of different styles and media. We recently had a chance to catch up with them during a visit and started working on a few projects together.
For a group that bases most of their art around a single icon, it was surprising to witness firsthand how expressive they can actually get with a simple picture of a toaster. These boys know their pieces inside and out, and their execution can range from subtly hand-painted silhouettes to boldly-colored abstract walls. All in all, they’ve got an impressive balance of technicality and creativity in what they do.
As for the overwhelming question of why they’ve specifically chosen to cover the globe with an image of a toaster…
…well, the author ultimately felt that gentlemen should not discuss such matters over breakfast.
Expect a fresh edition of prints via The Last Kitchen & Souled Out Studios in mid-2014.
